MA. LPCC

CEO & clinical DIRECTOR

I have always enjoyed helping others. Even as a child, I was a confidante for friends, peers, and family members who came to me to talk and process their struggles. Throughout my journey, I have learned that we all have parts of us that feel broken and that it’s okay to carry that brokenness while allowing it to inform the way we live our lives and engage with the world around us. I also believe that overcoming adversity expands our capacity for empathy and helps us to be less judgmental of both ourselves and others.

Having been born in Nigeria, raised in England, and now living in the United States, I possess a wide range of life experiences that inform my work and life philosophies. I understand the struggles of “cultural homelessness” that makes it difficult to feel at home in any one place. And because I am both a woman and an immigrant, I believe that the diverse perspectives we maintain at Focus Counseling help us to be more empathetic and understanding clinicians. The therapeutic culture at Focus revolves around the idea that people want to be seen and heard, and that building a foundation of authentic presence and genuine engagement with our clients is the best way to set them up for success.

While my approach often borrows from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I have additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), motivational interviewing and narrative therapies, and The Gottman Method for Couples Counseling. I believe in the value of behavioral, somatic, and narrative methods in helping clients to find relief from life’s emotional pains.

Though I no longer provide direct counseling services, I utilize the skill sets I’ve gained from my training to help the Columbus community and the communities of color in the surrounding areas by facilitating workshops and speaking engagements aiming to promote self-growth and healing. I have performed speaking engagements on such issues as anxiety, perfectionism, relationship struggles, communication, and assimilating in America as an immigrant for small businesses, large organizations, non-profits and colleges in Ohio, Texas and Maryland. In addition, I have spent the past decade writing blogs and producing podcasts that delve into these topics among others.

My personal motto is: “I can do hard things.” When life becomes stressful or overwhelming, I remind myself of what I am capable of, and I hope to empower people with the same degree of self-assurance.

None of us are immune to life’s challenges and I look forward to helping you and your organization build resilience and foster healing.
